What is Pain?

This website is about injuries that happen in the workplace, but here, my focus primarily is on pain.

Injury can be one specific injury or cumulative trauma, that happens over a course of time.

Injuries result in pain and pain is what you complain about when you visit your physician. Pain is how the physicians gauge your recovery. So, for all practical purposes, treatment of injuries is treatment of pain.

Unfortunately, pain is an entirely subjective experience and it is impossible to measure it accurately and objectively.

Physicians ask you to rate the pain on a scale of 0-10, that’s the best method they have to quantify pain, but that is still a subjective measurement and not an objective tool.

There are 2 types of pain, acute and chronic.
